At the University of Stuttgart transportation is not only a main research topic, it is also very prominent reflected in education. Members of FOVUS founded three study programs that define the three-columns-concept of mobility-related study programs at the University of Stuttgart:
- Transport Engineering (Bachelor and Master)
- Automotive Engineering (Bachelor and Master)
- Electromobility (Master)
Since the winter term 2012/13 all FOVUS-institutes are involved in the bachelor´s program Transport Engineering. Students learn among others how to plan route networks, timetables, transport infrastructure and traffic guidance systems. Also the development of driver’s assistance systems and logistics are part of the program. In the winter term 2015/16 the master’s program Transport Engineering started.
Since the winter term 2008/09 Automotive Engineering is established as a bachelor´s and master´s program. The aim of these study programs is to train engineers, who want to develop customer and environmentally friendly as well as resource-efficient products. The students learn the holistic view in a technical, economic and ecological context.
In the winter term 2012/13 the master´s program Electromobility was established. This master´s program is based on the bachelor´s programs "Automotive Engineering" and "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology". The students can deepen their knowledge in the following three areas pf specialization: "autonomous and connected driving", "electrical propulsion" or "battery systems and smart grids".
